November 9, 2017 – On Saturday morning, attend one of the community’s Remembrance Day ceremonies in Kanata or West Carleton.
The West Carleton ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. and those attending are asked to be in place by 10:45 a.m. The Remembrance Day service is held at the West Carleton War Memorial on Donald B. Munro drive at Falldown Lane in Carp. After the service at the cenotaph, all are invited to the Diefenbunker Museum (3929 Carp Rd.) for coffee, tea and light snacks.
In Kanata, the Kanata Legion Branch 638 organizes its service at the Cenotaph in Village Green Memorial Park on Colchester Square (located off Campeau Drive, across from Teron Rd). The service starts at 10:45 am, so the minute of silence can take place at exactly 11 am. After the cenotaph ceremony, all are welcomed to attend the Kanata Legion on 70 Hines Road for some refreshments.
“We have many to thank and remember for the freedoms we enjoy in Canada today,” says Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, the Ontario PC candidate for the provincial riding of Kanata-Carleton. “We are home to many members of the Canadian Armed Forces who are currently serving, and we are exceptionally grateful for their dedication to protecting our way of life.”
Dr. Fullerton adds, “Throughout Kanata-Carleton, our community does a great job of honouring the memory of those we have lost and showing respect for those who are serving. We will always remember their sacrifice.”
